I write this with a grin on my face :) I’m currently in law school and have worked for a law firm for over 1.5 years. It never fails that when an attorney has a hearing, deposition, etc. they always wear the same ol’ boring suit. WHY??? Some are polyester, NOT tailored, and always the same color, BLACK! Now, I know that not ALL attorney’s dress this way, however, this seems to be the way that most dress. I know that I am on my way to being an attorney and I still have some time until that day comes, however, I do know one thing, just because your an attorney and work long hours does NOT mean that you have to lack style!
First and foremost, when you just get out of law school and pass the bar you may be on a tight budget. I mean lets be honest here, law school IS NOT cheap! However, the way that you present yourself at an interview can go a long way. It is important to invest in at least 2 well made suits. Even if it’s on the pricier side; trust me!
Secondly, if you cannot afford the high end suits just yet, make sure that all of your suits are tailored specifically to your measurements. This includes the inseam, waist, neck, the whole sha-bang! Even though your suit may not be Dolce & Gabbana or Armani, the fact that the suit is tailored will give one a more clean look.
Thirdly, color. I’m not saying that an attorney has to wear a conspicuous suit that makes him look like a peacock more than a man of business. You want to look good and a man who dresses well will turn heads, believe me. The importance of this is that when you dress, the way that you present yourself is how the firm and client will also be associated. You can keep the black suit but perhaps try a pin-striped one instead of a solid black. Navy is also a good color. You may also want to invest in a well colored vest or handkerchief for the pocket of your blazer. (Just don’t do anything cheesy, sometimes less is more, remember that)!
I’ll provide some photos for your reference. But please remember, just because your an attorney does NOT mean that you have to look like one. The way you present yourself is a reflection of who you work for and the client you represent. You can still do your job and turn heads while you practice. ;)
Just my thoughts on Law Suits.
This is what I call or have nick-named the “Audrey Hepburn” belt. This is a very cute dual colored black and pearl belt; for a very reasonable price I might add. (Click on the picture to see the site). The basic color and clean lines of the belt will give any outfit a classic feel. Just like those amazing black and white movies! haha :)
Fathers Day Gift Idea #6
Since Fathers Day is tomorrow, this will be my last entry regarding Fathers Day gift ideas. This has been a fun little task I have undertaken in the past 6 days. This final slide show has one major theme, and that is COLOR! If you decide to get Daddy clothes for Fathers Day, I cannot stress enough the importance of color in ones wardrobe. This does not mean that Dad should look like a Rainbow when he goes to work or crosses the street. It merely is a way to make a softer piece stand out and really bring a look together while honing the colorful spectrum summer has to offer.—
Fathers Day Gift Idea #5
Bow Ties!!! I know that this may not suit every dad but you can always go with a colorful tie instead! This will bring freshness to any old suit in Daddy’s closet.
