Growing up, I was exposed to coffee the way my grandmother brewed it. Others may find it surprising but I was allowed to drink coffee at a young age. (This could explain the reason I’m able to have coffee late at night and still be able to go to bed with ease)! :)
However, I should note that my grandmother filled up my cup with very little coffee, a lot of milk and to top it off, she would let me load my cup with as many scoops of sugar as I wanted. I still remember the first thing my mother told me when I let her taste my cup of coffee; ”That’s not coffee, that’s candy!”
As I got older, entering high school I was a big fan of all types of coffees, but if I’m more specific, I was a fan of specialty coffees that had whip cream, syrup, and sugar pumps. Basically, I liked the taste of coffee with all the sugary add ons you could possibly ask for.
I soon found myself in college and was introduced to one of my good college friends. Her name was Juli and she was from Washtington state. She came from the city where Starbucks coffee was originally founded, so needless to say, she knew her way around coffee. I remember that on our walks to the coffee house for study or fellowship, she would to express how she appreciated the different flavors different coffee beans provided. As our friendship grew, so did my knowledge of different coffees, espresso, and teas. It was during this time that my appreciation and love for coffee really began. I was no longer trying to cover the boldness of the coffee flavor with syrups, sugar and cream, rather I tried to embrace the flavor the coffee had to offer.
The transition from drinking extremely sugary coffee drinks to an Americano was NOT overnight. This was a gradual processes and due to some food allergies I’ve been able to appreciate the flavor of coffee more now than I could have thought of.
With that said, I thought that I would travel around and visit different coffee houses, locally, out of town, out of state or wherever my travels take me; and write about it. Review it. What did I think about it; How does it compare to other drip coffees…Where were my favorite places, etc. With that “written,” I’m going to do my best to be consistent in my writing and reviews.
I hope that this is topic peeked your interest or that you may even be tempted to read it :) However, if there are any particular coffees you would like me too review, shoot me a message and I’ll do my best to oblige.
